Exploring the vast Prairie at Washita National Wildlife Refuge

Exploring the vast Prairie at Washita National Wildlife Refuge

I will decide upon at least one daily topic unless there are questions concerning other areas:

To open, I thought I would explain our pricing, which on several blogs has been criticized as being too cheap or low in price to be selling the quality of shepherd that we provide at Keystone.  We are cognizant about keeping our costs down so that we can provide a world class shepherd to the average family.  Our competitors charge much more, but we try to price our better puppies between $850.00 to $1,200.00.  While it is becoming harder to keep these prices at this current level, we are committed to being as fair as possible in our prices.

On the other side, we have people that are use to seeing puppies in the paper for as little as $100.00 and they wonder why we charge so much. To raise top quality animals it takes a lot of money to do it right.  Just the direct costs in raising a puppy to the age of 10 weeks can cost as much as $500.00 per puppy, this includes the basics such as food, cleaning, supplies, veterinarian expenses, shots, worming, etc.  In addition, this includes labor for cleaning, training and socialization, etc.

The same shepherd lines that we are selling for $1,200.00 are going for $2,400.00 to $5,000.00 in the Houston, Texas area. In Oklahoma, the shepherd like other animals are being sold for less than in other regions of the country.  For example, several people in this state make a living purchasing top quality horses and driving them to California where they sell them for as much as ten times for what they sell for here.  Nobody ever said Californians are the sharpest nuts in the can.  Excuse me for mixing metaphors and for my attempt at humor.

Please post a comment, telling me how wrong, right or off-base I am. Post a question and I will provide my opinion.

Sincerely,

KeystoneGermanShepherds

So the most expensive dog is $1,200?

Our average cost per companion puppies range from $850.00 to $1,200.00. For exceptional companion dogs the price may be higher and for our show dogs with great potential to be future Champions or even Grand Champions our prices start at $1,500.00.

Your prices are fair for several reasons. You are offering a top quality dog or puppy with a replacement gaurantee. (for good reasons) You also offer expert, exerianced advice for anyone who needs help with their dogs concerning all kinds of topics especially showing. You helped me and many others learn how to show GSD’s and I am grateful for that because it has been a great thing to do with these beautiful dogs. It pains me to see so many “back yard” breeders selling their puppies from “Champion Bloodlines” (meaning somewhere in the extended pedigree there was a Champion somewhere) and comparing themselves and their dogs to the dogs you sell who are almost always Champion Sired (often the dam is a Champion also) and the rest of the pedigree is all in Red with Champions. You take the time to prove your dogs are suitible for breeding by showing them. Talk about added expense to raising those puppies! Also, years ago, I used to be one of those people who traveled from California to Oklahoma and Texas to buy horses and take them back to California. It was a good business! Maybe I should consider doing that with puppies???

An fascinating discussion is worth comment. I believe that you simply really should write more on this topic, it may not be a taboo subject but frequently people aren’t sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers

I, too, purchased a puppy from Keystone German Shepherds. I did not feel like the price was too high for the dog I was getting. She was my first German Shepherd pup to ever own, and now that I know more about the breed and Dean’s quality of dogs, I realize how good of a deal she was! I believe had I been able to show her (could not due to a family members health at the time), she would certainly have been a champion. She is absolutely beautiful and the folks at Keystone German Shepherd have been there for me with any help they could give. From just questions answered over the phone, to training they provide on Saturday. I kept a female from her first litter, and she is just as wonderful. My plans to breed further had to be changed due to the health situation of my family member, but one thing is certain….when it is time to get another German Shepherd, I will be going back to Oklahoma from New Mexico and will certainly be getting one from Keystone! Great job guys! Keep up the good work!
